Why are some people afraid of monsters?

The monsters are very unhappy that a lowly human is invited and want to kill him. Vincent walks over and says something like, take a chill pill my friends. The monsters all agree that the human is most assuredly welcome, he is after all a much worse monster than they ever could be. They are even scared of him. What a monster.

This is why monsters hide from humans in closets and under beds of the least scary humans in every household. They are terrified and they should be.
